Secret Squirrel unseated rider 1st

This looked a race that could be narrowed down to just four runners beforehand and so it proved with OFFALY getting off the mark over fences with the minimum of fuss. Noel Meade's runner was fitted with blinkers for the first time and it helped his cause as he jumped pretty well throughout going this way. He had proved expensive to follow last time when parting company with his rider in the early stages at Down Royal but, edging to the front travelling ominously well after the second last, he scored eased down. This better surface was another plus and he can go on from this. A possible engagement at Doncaster Sales was mentioned.

All the money was for Tasman who had scored three times over hurdles in testing ground for trainer Dermot Weld and was having his second start over fences for Liam McAteer. He bowled along in front bidding to go one better than his Naas chasing debut effort over a slightly shorter trip. The writing though was on the wall when the winner arrived full of running and he had no more to offer but he should be winning again before long.

Parrot Cay jumped left here fitted with first-time blinkers and looked a spent force but he stayed on again in the straight possibly needing further. The race lost the fancied Rory's Pleasure who was still in touch at the third last. [BF]
