Favourite Clear Riposte didn't have any real excuse, just going down to a better horse on the day. Having disputed the lead from the fourth flight, he always travelled well but the winner had his measure from the second last flight, and there was probably no disgrace in going down to a good horse.
Paramount ran a fine race, but it's not that surprising as it's the sort of race he would run well in. Held up early, he made progress three out and just kept on from there to be a clear third. He jumped well also, but it might be abit too soon to reach the conclusion that he's a reformed character.
Spitfire Sortie faced his toughest test to date and ran well. Always handy, he came under pressure three out but kept on well enough to show that there are more races to be won. Spring The Que looked as though he was going to take a hand in the finish but found little from the third last. [JOH]
