Summit Surge lost nothing indefeat and should be capable of winning more races. Indeed, he probably hasn't run too many better races in his career. Always in the front rank and always travelling well, he led early in the straight and pulled out plenty, but the concession of over a stone to the rapidly improving winner just proved too much as he was headed close home.
Held up as usual, Monteriggioni saw plenty of daylight at an early enough stage of the race by his standards as he was in a close enough position to challenge afurlong and a half out. His run soon flattened out though and he could get no closer, but it was a very decent effort in good handicap company.
Quinmaster had a lot of weight on his back, but ran a nice race. Towards the rear early, he was never close enough to challenge but kept on inside the final furlong and a half from the rear to be nearest at the finish. He couldn't quite respond when first asked but not too many came home better than him. He finished just ahead of Dal Cais, who was prominent most of the way and Swiss Cottage, who was never close enough to challenge but kept on well inside the last furlong. [JOH]
