Sharp Drop tracked leaders, 4th on inner entering straight, close 5th over 1f out, challenged through gap inside final furlong, led close home
Slam Dunk disputed lead, narrow advantage 2f out, joined 1f out, no extra and headed close home
Fay Street mid-division, headway on outer into 4th 2f out, soon challenged, disputed lead from 1f out, no extra close home
Academy Blues prominent on outer, 3rd 2f out, 4th and no extra inside final furlong
Invisible Spirit slowly away and in rear of mid-division, some headway to go 6th over 1f out, kept on
He´s Got Rhythm disputed lead, headed 2f out, ridden and no extra over 1f out, soon weakened
Precious Citizen never better than mid-division, weakened under 2f out
Fungible chased leaders, weakened over 1f out
Forestdale never a factor
Daylite Robbery slowly into stride and always behind
Safe Spark slowly away and took keen hold in rear, weakened from 2f out, tailed off
Covered up by Mick Kinane just behind the lead for most of the way, the rider had to be patient in the straight for daylight to appear as he remained in the slipstream of the runner-up until inside the final furlong. When the filly was switched to the inside rail the response was quite impressive as she quickened and got her head in front on the line. She looks sure to go on to better things.
The presence of the 97-rated Slam Dunk gives the form a decent look, although the proximity of the 79-rated Fay Street would give the opposite impression.
The runner-up was keen enough at the head of what was a less than generous pace, but looked the likely winner when leading a furlong and a half out until he was headed on the line. He should be better for the run but apart from that there wouldn’t appear to be any excuses and the winner just looks the better horse.
Academy Blues showed a nice bit of promise on his debut. Keen enough when chasing the early lead, he weakened inside the final half furlong but looks absolutely certain to improve a good deal.
Also certain to improve is Invisible Spirit. She missed the break quite significantly but crept closer off the slow pace and travelled well enough to look as though she would challenge a furlong and a half out before she weakened late. She looks a reasonably promising filly.
Having been on the sharp end throughout, He’s Got Rhythm began to fade over a furlong out and was beaten when slightly hampered by the winner a few strides later. [JOH]
