Equus Maximus appears to be getting closer to breaking his duck over flights but just wasn't good enough here, and his best trip remains unclear. He raced handily enough most of the way and had closed to within three lengths of the lead at the third-last, but had no answer when the winner went for home. He stayed on at one pace past a very tired third-placed horse.
Grand Lahou probably had a bit too much made of him. He travelled and jumped okay in the lead until the winner went past him after the third-last and from there he weakened in the straight, putting in tired jumps at the last two flights. He may get this trip with more patient tactics.
Lucys Mate is a mare who should stay well on pedigree and ran with a fair bit of promise on her first start since August. She was held up off the pace and just kept on through the pack without ever being a threat.
Mooney's Vic also showed a little bit of promise, closing up to have some sort of chance four out before weakening from the next flight. [JOH]
