A change of tactics paid off, with TRYPTRONIC making all to score on his handicap debut. He had made little impact in four attempts in maiden hurdles, although the Sligo event in which he finished a moderate fourth last summer was a creditable enougheffort in the context of this very ordinary contest. Apart from being a bit untidy at the last, he jumped well and a good leap at the second-last was important.

Lugato, a multiple winner on the Flat in Germany, had been placed on his two previous starts. Held up, he began his effort after the third-last and was involved in a battle for second place from before the second-last. Under pressure before the last, he kept on but never really threatened to peg back the winner.

Rocheford Bridge, having his first run for Noel Meade, had precious little to recommend him, so his performance should have encouraged connections that a similar type of low-grade contest might come his way. Always promninent, he was kept wide before the third-last and was involved in a scrap with Lugato for second from the second-last. He was a bit awkward at the last.

Danikhali, whose only hurdles win came over virtually the same trip at Downpatrick over a year ago, kept on from mid-division after the third-last but never threatened at any stage.

Shay Barry reported that his mount Frosty Night made a respiratory noise in running. [TOH]
