GYPSY GEORGE was the least exposed member of the field, this being only his seventh run under Rules, but he had won two of his last three and this victory - on a step up from novice class - confirmed that he is very much on the upgrade.
His trainer Tim Walford sees him as just the type to make up into a Welsh National horse, the gelding being suited by soft ground and with the promise of making up into an out-and-out stayer, and he will now put him away for the summer.
Bannister Lane is also proving difficult to win with these days, but ran well over a trip that is probably on the sharp side for him these days. Chickapeakray confirmed recent Bangor placings with Kandjar d'Allier but never really looked like winning, while Kock de la Vestre, whose last win was the 4m Summer National here last July, was struggling from a long way out.
Timmy Murphy reported that Too Forward was unsuited by the ground.
