Lupanar tendency to jump slightly left, tracked leading pair, ridden to dispute 2nd after 3 out, lugged left from next, led and hit last, all out
Maraafeq tracked leader, led 3 out, headed and not fluent last, ridden and kept on well
Special Day tracked leaders, effort and hard ridden 3 out, switched outside approaching last, one pace
Wiesenfurst took keen hold in rear, lost touch after 5th, ridden to take modest 4th approaching 2 out, never near leaders
Podium Pete held up towards rear, outpaced approaching 6th, soon behind
Hawk Gold led at steady pace, quickened tempo approaching 6th, headed 3 out, weakened approaching next
Bellestani held up mainly in 5th, not fluent 5th, soon behind, tailed off 3 out, pulled up and dismounted run-in, lame
The pedestrian pace clearly did not suit LUPANAR but he still managed to win albeit in all-out fashion. He really needs further than this trip so it was good effort taking that into consideration. The handicapper cannot do too much damage and there is more to come although this ground was probably as quick as he wants as he was tending to hang when driven out.
Maraafeq is rated 10lb lower than the winner so he also ran creditably and he seemed suited by this quicker ground so he may well be able to go one better. Special Day had turned a handicap hurdle into a rout at Newbury on very soft ground but he was nevergoing on better conditions at Ayr last time and he could muster only the one pace here. A 21lb hike has not helped but it seems he is ground dependent.
