TONI ALCALA, on only his third run over fences, never looked to be travelling like a winner and seemed to be going nowhere three out. But he picked up in the straight and, only fifth jumping the last, he had by this stage hit his stride. Although he flashed his tail on the run-in, it did not stop him running on well enough to gain the day.
Kalmo Bay, dropped 2lb after defeat at Newcastle last time, turned in a solid enough effort here, but his form is hardly progressive.
Sitting Duck did best of those who set the early pace, sustaining his effort after Genghis - who was reported by his jockey to have lost his action - and Marshalls Run had cried enough.
