Petrus De Sormain, a 1m4f winner in France two years ago and untried previously at beyond 2m4f, kept on well from off the pace to suggest that he can find racesat this distance. Avoine, who had won a bumper on soft ground but had proved a big disappointment to date over hurdles, was another to show her appreciation of this step up in trip and she seemed to have no problems with the faster going.
Big John McCarty, who has been expensive to follow, fell right away in the closing stages, but this was his first run in five months and he is certainly better than he showed here.
