TOP DAWN, a winner at Plumpton two starts back, was pulled up off this 12lb higher mark last time at Towcester but a bad blunder did for him that day. Never far away here, he jumped ahead at the second-last but the runner-up rallied from the home turn and he had to pull out everything to hold on. Connections had thought he needed easier ground but he obviously coped well with the conditions.
Sovereign's Joy was in thefront rank throughout and, after rallying on the inside round the final turn, he just missed out. He loses nothing in defeat and seems to have improved for the cheekpieces.
Top weight Meggie's Beau shared pacesetting duties with Sovereign's Joy and only weakened from the second-last. This was a return to form and he remains capable of adding to his tally at the age of 12.
Gumley Gale unseated his rider on his return to the fray recently but this should have helped put an edge on him.
Heart Springs was held under the 6lb rise for her Stratfordvictory.
All-the-way Market Rasen winner Alam was held up this time and his race ended after he had tack problems. He is due to race off no less than 9lb higher in future.
