It was the near-side group, however, which had the call, with ROTHESAY DANCER coming through to take command entering the last beforerunning on strongly. She likes this course and gets on particularly well with Kelly Harrison.
Highland Song, returning from a short break after a busy time on the all-weather, ran well in second, just ahead of Babybshambles, who had every chance; only 2lb higher than his Ripon win, he had no apparent excuses.
Double Carpet came out best of the quartet who raced on the far side, just ahead of Overstayed. Angelofthenorth, confined to only one run last season, and having herfirst race of the year, was far from disgraced.
