Force Group tracked leaders, headway over 3f out, led 2f out and soon ridden, driven over 1f out, kept on well under pressure inside final furlong
Mandalay Prince tracked leaders, effort 3f out, ridden to challenge 2f out and every chance until driven and no extra well inside final furlong
Lucayan Dancer led, ridden along 3f out and soon headed, driven 2f out, kept on same pace entering final furlong
Red Wine held up in rear, headway 4f out, challenged 2f out, ridden well over 1f out and chance until weakened just inside final furlong
Twilight Dawn tracked leaders, effort on outer 4f out, ridden along 3f, soon weakened
Effigy prominent, effort to lead well over 2f out, soon ridden and headed 2f out, soon weakened
Kalasam tracked leaders, headway on inner 4f out, ridden along 3f out, soon weakened
Old Romney held up in rear, rapid headway to chase leader 7f out, ridden along over 4f out and soon weakened
Mandalay Prince clearly needed his turf comeback run three weeks previously as he did a good deal better this time, and he would have gone closer still but for having to be switched right as the winner came across him over a furlong out.
Red Wine threatened briefly in the straight, but he could not sustain the effort and does not seem in as good form as he was at the start of the turf season.
The rest were fairly comfortably held. Twilight Dawn faced a stiffer task than when winning a maiden on her reappearance, while Effigy was well below the form he had shown at Nottingham a fortnight previously, leading briefly over two furlongs out, but ultimately well held.
