Allied Powers held up in rear, good headway on inner 3f out, led over 2f out, soon ridden clear, easily
Blimey O´Riley led, ridden along 3f out, headed over 2f out, soon driven and kept on, no chance with winner
Silver Waters prominent, close up and niggled along 3f out, ridden over 2f out and soon one pace
Graylyn Ruby tracked leaders, effort 3f out, soon ridden along, driven 2f out and soon weakened
Silver Spruce tracked leaders, headway on outer 4f out, ridden along 3f out, driven and weakened over 2f out
Flash Of Fire in touch, ridden along 4f out, soon weakened
So a visually impressive performance by ALLIED POWERS, who led over two furlongs out and bounded clear in the straight, eased inside the final furlong and a very easy winner, may have been too good to be true. He had certainly looked an unlucky loser at Haydock four days earlier, when boxed in and not quite able to get to the front until it was too late, and is clearly better than his current mark, but he is likely to find himself on a much higher rating when he is reassessed.
The winner will have every chance if turned out again under a penalty, but will find things tougher thereafter. Then again, he is entitled to progress and has to be taken seriously if underfoot conditions remain testing.
Silver Waters had been an impressive winner on good to softground here the previous week, but he did not appear so effective on this more testing surface, while the likes of Graylyn Ruby, Silver Spruce and Flash Of Fire each ran as though they were found out by the ground, so are probably better judged when underfoot conditions are less severe.
