Rinterval tracked leader, ridden when slightly short of room 2f out, weakened entering final furlong
Applesnap soon restrained in last, ridden over 3f out, weakened over 2f out, eased when beaten final furlong
This looked a strong renewal on paper even after the withdrawal of Makaaseb, who holds Irish Guineas and Coronation entries. This was confirmed by paddock inspectionand it will be a surprise if black type is not achieved by at least the first two.
The only disappointment of the race was that it was run at a steady pace, leading to a sprint up the straight.
ROSALEEN continued her stable's trend of comingon for a run. although that was in the Group 3 Nell Gwyn. She took time to hit top stride but was well on top in the final 100yds. Connections are considering another step up for the Height of Fashion Stakes (formerly Lupe but still Listed) at Goodwood, which is now at the end of next month.
Bramaputra confirmed the good impression of her debut second in what could be a decent Newbury 7f maiden. This big scopey filly pulled well clear of the rest after also taking time to hit top stride early in the straight. She has an optimistic Coronation entry but midsummer fast ground may not play to her strength even if she continues to progress as expected.
My Aunt Fanny, another filly with size and scope, was not suited by the steady gallop but was staying on well in the final furlong to suggest further will bring more improvement - this was still a step up on her only previous start last year and she was meeting racefitter rivals.
Rinterval, a couple of lengths behind the winner in the Nell Gwyn, could not run to that form and was disappointingly left behind up the straight.
Irish import Applesnap was outclassed.[BJ]
