Considered to be "a fun horse" by his trainer Ralph Beckett, it wouldbe no surprise to see the American-bred colt to turn out to be useful, although connections will look to upgrade him into a conditions race before considering Royal Ascot.
Every Second was equally well wanted in the betting ring as he tried to repeat a 2007 victory in this race for his connections (with In Uniform). Not quite as well away from the gate as the winner, he tried to make a fight of it and in finishing easily second best was a country mile clear of the experienced third, Miss Hollybell. He shouldn''t have much trouble going one better.
Miss Hollybell had handled cut in the ground on her previous start at Warwick when going down to a well-backed springer in the market. She put that experience to good use by flying the gate from her wide post but was simply no match for the colts when they turned up the tempo. In the end she was coming back at Mazzola, however.
Abhainn played up behind the stalls and was the last in. This late foal showed decent pace throughout to finish just out of the money, and is another who will have learned tons for the experience.
