DUBAI PETAL, who travelled well held up at the back, appreciated the step up in trip to finish strongly and edge out the equally strong finish of Black Top Figarro.
She has been noted putting in good work in the latter stages over shorter recently, but this stiffer test of stamina suited and she was able to get off the mark at the seventh attempt. This is not strong handicap form, but she is still fairly unexposed over middle distances and there ought to be more to come.
Her trainer thinks the ground would have been a touch too quick for her, but she is tough and genuine.
Black Top Figarro, as he had done at Warwick last time, came under pressure a long way out but stayed on strongly once switched to the outside and he failed only narrowly. The ground may also have been too quick for him and, given his lack of tactical speed, the return to conditions that place more emphasis on stamina could help him.
Sea Admiral ran well on his seasonal return, going down by less than a length to race-fit rivals, and he is bred to appreciate middle distances this term, so he should be able to build on this.
