King Of Cadeaux steadied start, held up in rear, good headway on rail over 1f out, strong run to lead final stride
Forever Changes led 2f, pressed leader until led again entering straight, kept on under pressure, headed final stride
Filligree prominent, hard ridden final furlong, ran on well near finish
Szaba chased leaders, slightly outpaced over 2f out, hard ridden and rallied final furlong, ran on
Shatter Resistant steadied start, soon tracking leaders, ridden to challenge over 1f out, one pace final 100yds
Solo River towards rear, pushed along over 3f out, stayed on under pressure final 2f, never nearer
Night Premiere chased leaders, trapped wide and lost place after 2f, rallied and ran on under pressure approaching final furlong
Our Kally dwelt, behind, effort over 1f out, unable to challenge
Expediter held up in touch, promising effort on outside entering straight, shaken up over 1f out, faded final furlong
Wicksy Creek pressed leader, led after 2f until entering straight, weakened quickly over 1f out
KING OF CADEAUX and the well-backed Filligree were the only two of the ten runners without the benefit of an outing this year, but they were two of the three involved in the photo-finish. Both had similar profiles, in having raced three times last season without success, and it was King Of Cadeaux who managed, by the minimum margin of a nose, to lose his maiden status in the driving finish. His trainer put his improvement down to a wind operation. He was a trifle slow away but got a dream run up the inside rail when it mattered, and kept on well enough to suggest a step back up to 7f can be contemplated. That could come as quickly as Thursday at Folkestone.
Filligree will be tough to beat in search of compensation for her supporters next time, while Szaba ran her best race to date.
Shatter Resistant finished on the heels of the first three, having travelled quite well for the most part.
Solo River stayed on well enough, as did Night Premiere, though the fact she started favourite meant her actual finishing position was perhaps a little disappointing.
Expediter shaped as though she can do much better than this.
