Moiqen held up, ridden in 3rd 1 1/2f out, stayed on to go 2nd inside final furlong, no chance with winner
Hebridean raced 3rd, ridden to 2nd 1 1/2f out, no impression winner from 1f out, soon lost 2nd, kept on same pace
Greek Mythology led, ridden and challenged before straight, headed over 2f out, soon weakened
He raced in second place before joining for the lead into the straight and after hitting the front 2f out he stretched out well inside the final furlong to win decisively, much to the delight of his trainer Dermot Weld, whose previous winners of the race include subsequent Classic winners, Refuse To Bend and Grey Swallow.
Weld said of the winner, who won his maiden by seven lengths last year before ending his juvenile campaignby finishing three-quarters of a length second to Jupiter Pluvius in a Group 3 here in October. "He has developed into a bull of a colt and he is very smart. He was about 15kg over his optimum racing weight today, so he should come on well for the run. He could go for the Irish Guineas or the French Guineas depending on what his owner wants to do and I could see him staying a mile and a quarter, and possibly further" Weld said of the winner.
Hebridean ran eight times last year and won a maiden over 7f on fast ground at Roscommon. This was his first run for Aidan O'Brien and after being in contention early inthe straight, he was unable to raise his game from over 1f out.
Greek Mythology, winner of a 7f maiden here on his second start last season, was not seen again after finishing in midfield in the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot in June. He set off in front here, but was ridden along turning for home and was soon headed and done with. He was eased when beaten. [TO'H]
