The winner had some reasonable placed form to her credit at Dundalk on the all-weather last October but this looked a step beyond her on paper, which placed an obvious question mark beside the overall standard of this fillies' maiden.
She took it up one-and-a-half-fromhome and kept on well under pressure after which her trainer revealed she had been working well at home and had, like her sire High Chaparral, improved from two to three. She is sure to take a hike for this victory and a winners’ race is likely next, according to Kevin Prendergast.
Sail was all the rage in the ring bidding to provide Aidan O'Brien with his fifth successive win in this race. She went in pursuit of the winner and for a few strides looked like getting the job done, but her inexperience showed when holding her head high when pressure was applied. She should learn a lot from her second career run.
Carbonia, like the winner, had three runs to her credit but after racing in the leading group was struggling to quicken in this ground, along with Golden Silk, who should also appreciate a better surface.
Debutante Kharsya, stable companion of the fourth home, was another to struggle when asked for her effort. The Ballydoyle second string Adored had shaped nicely in her sole outing last October on fast ground, but she dropped out tamely after racing in the leading group.
Suantrai broke smartly and soon disputed with the once-raced Marinello, who led leaving the back straight, but both failed to raise their game when the tempo increased turning for home. [BF]
