Mid-division for the first half of the race, the winner made good ground to arrive full of running at the second-last and quickened to the lead there. Despite the fact that he didn’t go away and win by a wide margin, nothing else was going to land the race, and winning rider Andrew McNamara was adamant that there was plenty left in the locker if it was needed. He jumped brilliantly as well and looks a real chaser in the making.
Runner-up Faltering Fullback is developing into a very promising individual indeed and put in his best effort to date. Quite handily placed throughout, he improved on the outside to have his chance at the second-last and ran on really well to cut down the deficit on the winner while not having the same measure of class. He should have no trouble in getting a bit further and should pay to follow.
Spaceman has done very well despite looking far from a straightforward horse. Having been held up towards the rear, he was hard driven to get into a competitive position coming down the hill into the straight and kept on well enough.
Raven’s Run ran a bit below his best. He didn’t get to the front until early in the straight, but once challenged by thewinner he went backwards quickly enough.
The biggest disappointment was Jack The Bus. He was very keen early on while racing in mid-division, and while he made some progress after the third-last, it was a shortlived effort.
Hume River triedto make all and ran far better then his finishing position. He missed almost every hurdle and only weakened from the second-last. Not a bad effort.
Decoy Daddy was disappointingly beaten three out and was found to be clinically abnormal post race.[JOH]
