An odd sort of race that changed complexion on a number of occasions. The major incident of the race was at the fourth flight when second-placed Capdalight went out through the wing and in the process hampered the favourite Cler, who unseated Ruby Walsh. At that time, early front-runner Wait For Green had a nice advantage which quickly turned into a very clear lead. He made early mistakes, but his jumping gradually improved. However, he was unable to keep up the gallop and was headed before the second-last by Priest Field. That individual had made up a lot of ground quite rapidly from the rear, but in the end that probably proved his undoing as he got there too soon and had no extra when he was headed jumping the last.

Newcomer GLENBARROW raced in mid-division for the early part of the race, but began to make some progress three out and stayed on well all the way up the straight, leading at the final flight and running on strongly to score. He raced green and his jumping was novicey, but he obviously has ability and should improve, but it’s hard to gauge how much ability he has given how the race developed.

The first four finished a long way clear of The Sneezer, who had closed to within hailing distance of the leaders before the second-last, but was soon one paced. [JOH]
