Corrybrough towards rear, pushed along halfway, progress over 1f out, ridden to lead just inside final furlong, forged clear
Chartist tracked leading pair, cruising over 1f out, asked to lead 1f out but immediately surprised by winner, limited response when ridden
Rash Judgement held up in last trio, not clear run over 1f out, stayed on well final furlong to take 3rd last strides
Brassini raced on outer in midfield, reminders and progress halfway, close enough 1f out, kept on one pace
Lesson In Humility took keen hold, tracked leading pair, not much room on inner just over 1f out, kept on same pace final furlong with tail flashing
Perfect Flight pushed along in rear after 2f, stayed on final furlong, nearest finish
Lady Avenger took keen hold, held up behind leaders, not quicken over 1f out, faded final furlong
Bosun Breese led 1f, led again 2f out, driven and headed just insiden final furlong, weakened
Soopacal soon tracked leaders, ridden when not clear run briefly over 1f out, soon beaten
Good Gorsoon held up in last, effort and not clear run over 1f out, repeatedly hampered inside final furlong when going well, no chance
Fol Hollow led after 1f to 2f out, weakened rapidly final furlong
Corrybrough looked in great nick and his stable has struck form earlier than usual, but he was unable to take full advantage of his far rail draw and looked in a bit of trouble at halfway, where he was pushed along towards the rear of the field with plenty going better than him. When he was switched left and got into top gear, though, he was impressive, and having led just inside the final furlong he ran on strongly to win going away. While not as impressive as Kyllachy, he looked very rusty after his winter off and is better than the bare form and should make his mark in Listed or minor Group races before too long. Connections are reluctant to aim too high too soon, but they have the Abbaye in the back of their minds as a long-term target. There is a Listed race and Group 3 over this course and distance that Hoh Mike won last year on his way to the Abbaye, and one would imagine they would be the sort of races he would go for.
While Corrybrough won well, he might have faced a fight if Richard Hughes had ridden Chartist differently. Hughes looked to have his hands full two furlongs out, where he was perfectly poised to take command whenever he wanted, but he sat and sat until the winner got upsides, and when he finally pressed the button there was little there.
Brassini went well up the outside from stall two and was only just run out of the places. He can be placed to advantage.
Lesson In Humility was up there throughout but spoilt her finishing effort by flashing her tail under pressure.
Perfect Flight was one paced in the closing stages.
Bosun Breese had the run of the race after breaking fast from stall ten and he had no apparent excuse. Nor seemingly did Newmarket third Fol Hollow, who raced upsides himbut weakened rapidly.
Much more interesting for the future is Good Gorsoon, who travelled well under restraint at the back of the field but never saw any daylight. He finished full of running and simply didn't have a race. He was unlucky in running at Bath last year and might not be straightforward, but this can be ignored.
