Commemoration Day held up, niggled along from 6th, headway approaching 4 out, went 3rd last, no impression on front pair
Corran Ard jumped right, chased leaders, pecked 1st, always well held final 4, weakening when hit last, lame
Tyup Pompey led to 1st, regained lead after 5th (water), headed after 9th, weakened quickely approaching 4 out
Rich Nomad always struggling and behind, saddle slipped
Pret A Thou not jump well, held up, some headway 7th, weakened after 9th
Lady Purton led 1st, headed after 5th (water), weakened 8th, tailed off
Sternenzelt jumped left, held up, pulled up before 7th
Cengiz towards rear, headway 8th, 6th and toiling when blundered and unseated rider several strides after 4 out
Analyis of the race
Something of a conundrum, the outcome of this very ordinary novice chase as ORREZZO had finished well behind Tyup Pompey the last twice they have met. However, he managed to reverse that form in no uncertain terms and won his first race at the 14th time of asking. The form has to have a very large question mark over it as a result.
Merchant Red, making his chasing debut, and the winner had the race to themselves up the straight but he gave the impression he was more interested in lugging in behind the winner than beating him and looks as if he needs things to go all his own way.
Corran Ard was slightly disappointing on his first attempt over fences and he may not be that straightforward.
Tyup Pompey was well beaten in the end which was miles away from the form he showed to win over course and distance last time on similar ground so there did not appear to be any excuses.
