A fair, even gallop to this competitive marathon chase. LAERTES hadn't proved as good over fences as he was over hurdles, and has mixed the two codes this season. However, he's 29lb lower over fences, and made the most of his mark to take this, racing up with the pace, going on before halfway and staying on well having gone clear approaching the third last. He clearly stays well, and his jumping stood up to this test, so further improvement is on the cards.

Lydon House, a winning pointer, has yet to win under rules, but he stays well and stuck gamely to his task here though was unable to reel in the winner in the straight. The Gangerman hasn't won over fences, but he has run plenty of good races, and did so again here. He was one of four to go clear from four out, but he couldn't find any more from the second last.
