Critical Stage held up in rear, ridden 7th and plenty to do until stayed on under pressure to lead near finish
Sea Eagle always prominent, went 2nd after 2 out, every chance last, kept on under pressure to go 2nd run-in
Bengal Bullet led until headed approaching 5th, led again approaching 7th, ridden and headed soon after last and no extra run-in
Tarateeno tracked leaders, ridden after 2 out, weakened approaching last
Marigolds Way held up, headway to dispute lead approaching 7th, ridden from 2 out, weakened approaching last
Orion Express always towards rear though some late progress
Plum Pudding prominent until weakened 2 out
Voir Dire in touch, headway approaching 7th, weakened before last
Euro Import tracked leaders, led approaching 5th, headed approaching 7th, weakened quickly
Devito mid-division, ridden after 6th, weakened and soon lost touch, tailed off
Trigger Guard mid-division, ridden approaching 6th, weakened, tailed off when pulled up after 2 out
This opening handicap hurdle was nothing out of the ordinary. CRITICAL STAGE had been in action on the all-weathersince his last jumps outing and was trying this far for the first time. He was given an exemplary waiting ride and got there in the dying strides. However, the majority of his previous best form over hurdles had been in sellers and claimers so the bare form should be treated with a degree of caution.
Bengal Bullet basically wants three miles around a testing circuit like Exeter so this sharp circuit should not have suited. Given that, he has run up to his best in the circumstances.
Tarateeno did not seem to get home in the conditions.
