MASTER SOMERVILLE has certainly looked an improved performer since fitted with blinkers and he confirmed the promise of his Uttoxeter success by defying a 13lb higher mark, making much of the running and holding on gamely when challenged by the runner-up. He tended to hang in the latter stages but his trainer out that down to tiredness. He is entitled still to be learning the game at the age of six, after just races four over fences, and there is more than likely better to come so he could well defy the handicapper again.
Double Header hadnot got round in two previous races over fences but he has won over hurdles and showed there is a race of this nature in him. He held every chance at the last fence but was run out of it on the run-in. He would have gone even closer but for a mistake twoout and is likely to go one place better unless hit very severely by the handicapper.
Pop Ahead ran creditably on his return from five months off, while Heavy Weather was potentially well treated on his hurdles form but has yet to match that as a chaser, though he was prominent for a fair way and came a long way clearof the rest.
Of the remainder, Cleymor House was a shade keen but Flying Jody ran well for a fair way in face of a stiff task on his return from a break.
