A handicap hurdle run at a strong gallop went to LITTLE BOB, who went up 9lb for winning at Doncaster last month, but was below par on his latest start. Held up, he worked his way into the race from the third-last and ran on strongly after it. He struggled to win over hurdles last term, but is showing a much better attitude this time and will now go to Aintree next month.

Summer Soul, who was having his first race for his new yard, turned in a promising run in second and though he looked to face a stiff task on his mark of 120, he ran well enough to suggest he can win off it.

Third went to Longdale, who raced in touch, was quite keen, but kept on for a creditable third and as he is effective on much faster ground, he should be winning again soon.

Ho Pang Yau raced keenly, lost touch three out and was then eased. The stewards decided to penalise his rider for not taking all reasonable measures to take the best possible placing but he didn't show enough to suggest he'll be winning shortly.
