Hidden Talents chased leaders, mistake 4th, driven to dispute 2nd 3 out, soon weakened
Cloonavery prominent, tracked winner after 8th, weakened quickly 3 out, behind when pulled up before next
Sett Aside pressed leader, led 3rd until 6th, hard ridden 8th, weakened 3 out, 6th and no chance when pulled up before last
War Pennant several mistakes, held up at head of rear group, headway to dispute 3rd when blundered 9th, soon weakened, well behind when pulled up before last
The Flat-bred Kings Story was making his both his selling and his handicap debut after just the mandatory three runs, but connections were worried that he would not enjoy the ground. He made headway from the rear down the far side and went after the winner on the home turn and took a clear second rounding the home turn. He never got within striking distance but might be worth another chance off this sort of mark on better ground.
*Philip Hide reported that War Pennant was unsuited by the going.
