Analyis of the race

A weak seller with four non runners, three of them on account of the ground. Difficult to make a strong case for any of the remainder, but the market got it right with LIGHTENING FIRE, one of three runners representing Bernard Llewellyn. Starting down the far side the stable had three of the first four, but Lightening Fire was going much the best in front and he was firmly in charge before they straightened home. He won easily, despite his rider reporting he was doing nothing in front.

The Flat-bred Kings Story was making his both his selling and his handicap debut after just the mandatory three runs, but connections were worried that he would not enjoy the ground. He made headway from the rear down the far side and went after the winner on the home turn and took a clear second rounding the home turn. He never got within striking distance but might be worth another chance off this sort of mark on better ground.

*Philip Hide reported that War Pennant was unsuited by the going.
