This was notable for an unusually steady pace and slow time but it could not stop BIENHEUREAUX winning the race for the second year running. A pound lower than a year ago, Bienheureux annihilated his rivals, having the race won before the final furlong after travelling supremely well throughout. He has won off marks in the mid-50s but has always struggled when into the 60s, so his future depends how tough the handicapper is on him for this runaway win.

Blue Hills, rated much higher on the all-weather after his successful winter, could not take advantage of what looked a handy mark if he could translate the form back to turf even though he was 4lb higher than for his last turf start. He has still to win on turf but there were signs he can win asimilarly low-grade contest.

Makai, off a 277-day absence, showed a banded contest is within his compass off his plummeting mark as he showed signs of a return to form after looking to have lost his way last year.

Viscount Rossini was only plodding on when bumped which unbalanced his jockey inside the final furlong.

Nanosecond was reported to have lost his action. Play Up Pompey was reported never to be travelling. Mud Monkey was reported to have been unbalanced in the straight.
