Analyis of the race

With the confirmed front runner in the race in Beckermet they were always likely to go a good pace and the time was pretty good with CAPTAIN MARVELOUS making a return from the wilderness. He had shaped with plenty of encouragement behind Jumbajukiba at the Curragh 13 days earlier and that form was to be given a boost by Major Cadeaux in the Sandown Mile. Captain Marvelous had been close up towards the stands rail throughout out and stayed on strongly on the rise to the line to lead near the finish ina manner which suggests that a 1m wouldn't be out the question for him. He was a Group 2 winner as two-year-old and the determination he showed he could stand him in good stead at a higher level.

Al Qasi was held up in the early stages and made headway over three furlongs out and was staying on well near the finish. He was giving 5lb to the winner and he gave the impression he will come on considerably for this reappearance effort.

Beckermet ran a solid race and has shown some of his best form for Chris Catlin and his turn in this grade will come in due course once more.

Appalachian Trail is best with the strong pace he got here and kept on well enough towards the centre but the gamble on Confuchias never looked likely to materialise as he was held up and made some progress over a furlong out but was soon put in his place and obviously must have been showing a lot more at home.
