This was just an ordinary handicap, but it was fairly competitive for all of that, and while the well-backed Wooden King proved disappointing in the face of such solid support, LEGENDARY GUEST battled on well to have the call over Leading Edge, one of his former stablemates.
Bought out of Mick Channon's stable last autumn and gelded since, he improved on his recent comeback run over 7f and, back in trip here, did his job in pleasing style. There may be more to come.
Leading Edge came from off the pace and saw his race out well enough, only to find the winner holding him towards the finish.
Discanti, making his seasonal debut and his handicap bow, ran a respectable race. He is fairly unexposed and there may be improvement to come from him and on this evidence, he will stay a little further.
Thomas Malory, fit from racing, ran a creditable enough race, staying on nicely down the outside.
Berrymead was comfortably held from her wide draw, while Wooden King, having forced the pace into the straight, was soon being asked a question and was on the retreat well over a furlong from home.
