Celtic Spirit held up in rear, headway when hampered and lost place 2f out, plenty to do when strong run final furlong, led final 25yds, won going away
Pinch Of Salt towards rear but in touch, rapid headway on outside and hung right 2f out, soon led, hard driven caught final 25yds
Grande Caiman chased leaders, driven to challenge inside final 2f, stayed on same pace inside final furlong
Tartan Tie led and kept narrow advantage until headed inside final 2f, weakened approaching final furlong
St Savarin tracked leader, ridden and upsides 5f out until weakened inside final 2f
Athenian Way chased leaders, ridden and bumped over 2f out, soon hung right, weakened well over 1f out
CELTIC SPIRIT would have been an unlucky loser as, produced with a searing run on straightening up off the home bend, he was messed around by Pinch Of Salt hanging right across the field. Any worries about him getting this longer trip were blown away when he reeled in Pinch Of Salt, who had opened up a clear lead, and he was going away in the final strides.
Pinch Of Salt had been unlucky in running here since his win, getting blocked up the inside rail, and nothing was left to chance here as he came widest off the home bend and made a bold early move that looked like prevailing until the final 100yds.
Athenian Way looked to find the surface plenty quick enough, being flat out off the home bend and readily outspeeded on this reappearance.
