Analyis of the race

A moderate classified contest, but plenty of runners and very competitive. They were spread all over the track in the straight, with the main action taking place up the middle.

TURKISH SULTAN, back with Milton Bradley after failing to take to hurdling for Evan Williams over the winter, just came out on top in a bunch finish. He had both the tongue-tie and visor left off this time and the refitting of cheekpieces clearly did the trick, for this was his first success at the 23rd time of asking (including three runs over hurdles). He had nothing in hand, but should remain competitive at this sort of level.

Grey Gurkha, whose only success twas gained on the Polytrack last December, stayed on from off the pace to have his chance, but he found one too strong late on.

Capped For Victory shaped well on his return from an absence at Beverley the previous week and he confirmed that promise with a close third.

Tapas Lad found all sorts of trouble early in the straight and had too much to do by the time he switched towards the far rail. He ran on once in the clear, but his only success to date came in a seller and he would be no sure thing to confirm this next time.

Holden Caulfield did enough to suggest there might be a small race in him in time.

African Blues, making his debut for a new yard after over a year off, lost his chance by edging over to the stands' rail in the straight, but this was still a much-improved effort considering he came into this rated just 5. His new trainer has improved the same owner's Justcallmehandsome and might be able to find a small race with this one in time.

Zayyir was too keen for his own good, and Scots W'Hae also took a grip.
