TOP SEED had been well held on both his starts since this year, but he had dropped to a mark no less than 30lb lower than when last winning in May 2006.
He returned to form to take advantage, landing a bit of a gamble in the process having been available at around 20-1 on the exchanges earlier in the day. Having been held up early on, he picked up well when switched into the clear in the straight and did it in good style. His connections thought he might do even better on quicker ground and he could well follow up if turned out under a penalty, although things will be tougher once the handicapper has had his say.
Princelywallywogan was only 2lb higher than when winning at Folkestone on his previous start, but he found one too good. He looked to be travelling strongly in behind horses rounding the final bend, but he took his time in picking up once in the clear and never threatened the winner, only grabbing second on the line. He should remain competitive.
King Of Connacht returned to form when fourth to today's runner-up at Folkestone on his previous start and this was another respectable effort.
Ready To Crown, trying turf for the first time on the Flat (she won a bumper) after showing ability on sand, was well held but this was still a creditable effort.
There was a big gamble of Brouhaha, who had been available at 8-1 at the beginning of the day, but he failed to pick up after being produced with every chance. This was his first start for a new trainer off the back of a 201-day break.
