Snaefell chased leaders, 4th 2f out, challenged under pressure and led inside final furlong, just held on
Raptor chased leaders, closed under pressure into 3rd inside final furlong, soon 2nd and challenged, stayed on well, just failed
Northern Dare prominent, led 2f out, strongly pressed and headed inside final furlong, soon dropped to 3rd and kept on same pace
Alone He Stands towards rear, kept on without threatening under pressure from under 2f out
Kingsdale Ocean in rear of mid-division, kept on without threatening under pressure from under 2f out
Toberogan towards rear, kept on without threatening under pressure from under 2f out
Braddock led, strongly pressed and headed 2f out, soon no extra
Infinite Charm towards rear for most, never a factor
Senor Benny soon chased leaders, closer in 3rd and slightly short of room 2f out, soon weakened
Controvento prominent, lost place and weakened from under 2f out
Fit The Cove in rear of mid-division, 9th halfway, no impression under pressure from under 2f out, eased inside final furlong
College Scholar close up, lost place under pressure from 2f out, eased well over 1f out
Raptor, a three-time winner – twice over this trip and once over 7f – in Germany two years ago, showed then that he handled soft and heavy ground. He has not won since and had been placed a couple of times on the all-weather before finishing in midfield in the Lincoln at Doncaster on his previous start. He began his effort next to the stands’ side rail over 2f out and arrived with every chance over the final furlong, only just losing out.
Alone He Stands, the back-marker at halfway, still had seven rivals ahead of him over 1f out before running on in the closing stages. A five-time winner, at this trip and over 7f, he has done all his winning on ground ranging from yielding to heavy and will be worth keeping an eye out for while conditions are in his favour.
Fit The Cove, winner of this race a year ago and racing off the same mark here, never got into contention before being eased down from1f out. [TO’H]
