A first winner of the season for the Aidan O’Brien-Johnny Murtagh alliance here when GEORGEBERNARDSHAW scored with the minimum of fuss. This was the first run of the year for the Danehill Dancer colt and his fifth in all, but relishing this testing ground, he made light work of this. He was found to be clinically abnormal post-race after disappointing at Dundalk when odds-on for a nursery last December. His trainer was absent but the winning rider expects “a good bit of improvement in him”.

The race contained seven first timers and runner-up Manhattan Beach performed best of the septet. She had no answer when the winner went for home but the Captain Rio filly should benefit from this initial experience along with another newcomer Nice Style.

Ability N Deliverywas another newcomer to shape well on ground that was probably against him, while of the others Astonish and Ucantoo, who stepped up on his initial effort at Leopardstown last August, ran better than their final placing suggested.

Moura Praia had two respectable unplaced runs to her credit on better ground but she never travelled on this surface and dropped away. [BF]
