Greenhope held up, ridden and outpaced after 5 out, kept on from 2 out, no impression

Stan held up in touch, effort and driven before 4 out, outpaced from next

Bambi De L´Orme prominent, hampered 6th, not fluent next, ridden before 4 out, weakened from next

Jefertiti towards rear, driven and outpaced 5 out, soon beaten

En La Cruz close up, hit 7th, outpaced when hampered bend after next, struggling when mistake 4 out, tailed off

Several of the useful chasers in this field had something to prove on recent efforts, and they did not go a great gallop either, which helped those ridden on or near the pace. So MARCEL benefited from being in touch from the off, and probably also that this was less competitive than the Aintree race he had tackled earlier in the month. He had been a good winner in a six-runner field at Kelso on his previous start and was seen to much better advantage back in this similarly-sized line up, leading after three out for a ready victory.

Andreas was another to do better than he had done at Aintree, leading until after three out, though he had the run of the race here.

Nor was the in-form hold-up performer Stan suited by the way the race was run, though he could find no extra late on and may just have been feeling the effects of having his second race in three days.

Bambi De L’Orme has still to recapture his best form, while Jeffertiti had a stiff task from out of the handicap. En La Cruz waslet down by her jumping. (DC)
