Starzaan chased leaders, headway halfway, led 4 out, hit and headed next, outpaced 2 out, kept on strongly from last to lead close home
Noland prominent, hit 7th, mistake 5 out, effort next, led 3 out, good jump last, no extra and headed close home
Frankie Figg led to 4 out, soon ridden, outpaced from 2 out
Endless Power held up in touch, headway before 4 out, edged left and weakened from next
Gods Token close up, lost place 8th, weakened next, tailed off when pulled up before 5 out
His jumping through the race was not without blemishes, but he picked-up well when asked to go about his job once in line for home and produced to lead at the third-last, which STARZAAN hit, and looked home and dried when establishing a decent advantage. Ruby Walsh, however, plainly sensed that it was far from over and, after getting a fine jump from his mount at the last, got after him, onlyfor Noland to produce a weak finishing effort, which enabled the rallying Starzaan to mug him near the line. Paul Nicholls reported that Walsh said Noland had “choked”. A breathing operation is set for the horse in the not too distant future.
Frankie Figg, stepping-up in class, jumped well out in front and ran a spirited way until he was finally put in his placefrom the third-last. This was a good run from a horse proven on soft ground.
Endless Power, turning-out for the second time in 24 hours after his third in handicap company here on Friday, was ridden with more restraint here. He was in with a chance leaving the back straight, but he was put in his place over the final three fences. Gods Token was in trouble passing the stands with a circuit to race. (TO’R)
