BEAT THE BOYS had pulled up after making too many mistakesat the Festival but seemed better suited by this smaller field and jumped a lot better for professional handling this time. The way he won has probably more to do with the fact that the runner-up seems to have had enough for now than anything else and with the handicapper certain not to leave him alone for this he will have more to do next time. That next time might be in the Scottish National on Saturday as his trainer did not rule it out but did not rule it in either.
The Langer had obviously no chance on official ratings and grabbed third on the post and his finishing position is best forgotten as Petit Lord, coming back from a long lay-off, got very tired on the sticky ground and should be better on quicker conditions with this run under his belt.
The fitting of a tongue-tie on Michael Muck made absolutely no difference as he was the first beaten.
