Jockey reaction to the ground varied between on the slow side of good to dead, so those who wanted quickish conditions would have been disadvantaged. This juvenile novice hurdles was contested by those just off the top heat as far as this division is concerned.

SQUADRON had been beaten a long way in the Fred Winter at the Festival and he seemed more at home in this company as well as on this slightly less testing ground but he was all out in the end. He will be put away now with an autumn return to action in mind and, given the right conditions, there might well be more to come as he is still considered to be growing.

Hot Diamond came there with his chance at the last after being waited with and was cutting the winner down at the death after being slightly untidy at the last. Depending on which way connections wish to go he is likely to be a novice for next season and there are races to be won with him, especially as he gives the impression better ground will also suit him.

Serhaaphim, the only filly in the line-up, ran as well as could be expected and it would not be a great surprise to see her go down the mares' route next season.

Callisto Moon is thoroughly exposed and is a benchmark for the overall form.

Bantry Bere shaped as if he will want further than this in time.
