Basra in touch, headway to chase leading pair over 2f out, ridden to lead just over 2f out, ran on gamely final furlong
Mataram steadied start, took keen hold, held up in rear, good headway well over 1f out, ran on to chase winner inside final furlong, ran on well
Rapid City held up in midfield, headway 4f out, chased leaders over 2f out, ridden to chase winner over 1f out, kept on same pace, lost 2nd inside final furlong
Haarth Sovereign chased leaders, edged out off rail over 2f out, soon ridden, switched left over 1f out, chased leaders 1f out, kept on same pace under pressure final furlong
Shela House steadied start, held up in rear, headway and ridden 2f out, edged right just over 1f out, kept on but never near leaders
Cross The Line held up in midfield on inner, ridden and effort 2f out, no impression over 1f out
Bee Stinger held up towards rear, ridden over 3f out, some headway when short of room just over 1f out, never troubled leaders
Robustian pulled hard, chased leaders until led 4f out, ridden and headed just over 2f out, lost 2nd over 1f out, soon weakened
Crossbow Creek steadied start, held up in last trio, headway over 3f out, ridden 2f out, weakened over 1f out
Fongs Gazelle led for 1f, chased leader after until over 2f out, ridden and held head high well over 1f out, soon beaten
Lobengula led after 1f, headed and wide bend 4f out, soon weakened, well behind last 2f
BASRA seized the initiative by moving through to pick up the running turning for home and that proved decisive for he soon opened up a couple of length advantage and he stayed on strongly all the way to the line.Disappointing on turf last time, the return to this surface clearly suited and he had to have a good chance on his Winter Derby Trial run, where he was beaten less than three lengths.
Rapid City ran very well on his second run back after a long break and he's clearly retained plenty of ability, while Haarth Sovereign was probably cooked by the 8lb rise he received for winning at Kempton last time.
