Tighnabruaich held up in rear, driven along 3f out, headway over 2f out, ran on to lead approaching final furlong, kept on well
Manyriverstocross chased leaders in 3rd, ridden 3f out, stayed on under pressure to chase winner final furlong, going on close home but always just held
Art Trend soon led, ridden over 2f out, headed approaching final furlong, no extra inside final furlong
Houghton chased leaders, pushed along 3f out, no impression, weakened 2f out
Dalhaan held up in rear, headway to chase leaders over 2f out, weakened soon after
Ballisodare chased leaders, ridden 3f out, soon weakened
Deer Daylami ridden 4f out, always in rear
Eddie Dowling in rear but in touch, ridden over 4f out, soon weakened
TIGHNABRUAICH, who had shown just fair form in a couple of starts at two, improved for this step up from 1m and held on well. Restrained in rear early on, he made ground in good style and his rider believed he was just dossing around in front, as opposed to getting tired. He will be a handicapper and it will be interesting to see what mark he gets.
Alan King, in such great form with his jumpers, also does an excellent job with his Flat string and Manyriverstocross should have little trouble winning a race if this run is anything to go by. Fifth over 1m on his sole run at two, this sort of trip was always likely to suit and he kept on all the way to the line, suggesting a small maiden can go his way before he moves into handicaps.
Art Trend, a half-brother to the useful Folk Opera, shaped with only limited potential when a well-beaten second on his recent debut behind Drill Sergeant at Newcastle and needed to have improved. He overcame a slow start to lead and briefly looked to have them on the stretch, but in the end he was just outstayed. A drop in trip may help.
Dalhaan, 66-1 and never involved when running green over 7f at Goodwood on his debut in August, has a mixture of speed and stamina in his pedigree (half-brother to sprint winner, dam sister to Sakhee) and this run proved inconclusive. He's another likely handicap type.
Deer Daylami had shaped quite well when third on his Polytrack debut at Kempton and it was disappointing that he showed so little on this switch to turf. A faster surface is probably required. [MB]
