He has gone well on the downhill speed tracks of Epsom and Goodwood and he may be back there this summer and in this form, could have a big say in slightly better races which he will have to contest after the likely rise for this win.
Valery Borzov suffered for an early-season win last year and remains plenty high enough in the handicap. He was settled in but got a clear run through after Our Blessing took three out midtrack when hanging early in the straight. He ran down the weakening Dvinsky late for second without seeing which way the winner went.
Royal Envoy was done no favours by the badly hanging Our Blessing and stayed on when back on an even keel to run a shadebetter than the bare form suggests.
