Two of the newcomers dominated, CITY BONUS and Al Wasef, with the former coming late on the scene to take the spoils. A half-brother to top-notch handicapper Mine, the winner was very coltish in the preliminaries and seemed to treat this race like a day out for much of proceedings. But the penny gradually dropped and, without being knocked about, he stayed on to lead close home and then pricked his ears. He will hardly have known he had a race and he is open to plenty of improvement.
Plenilune, who had shown ability on his debut at Doncaster, ran a sound race in third.
Salerosa made a satisfactory reappearance. Merrion Tiger showed ability on his debut, while another of the newcomers, Cheers For Thea, for whom there was some support, showed a glimpse of ability.
