Assertive was giving 4lb to the winner and lost nothing in defeat. He came to have every chance inside the final furlong and ran on without having the pace to repel the late finish of Zidane. He has plenty of winning form at this level and should soon improve that record.
Dark Missile made a pleasing reappearance and was another for whom success in this grade beckons. She was another who had every chance inside the final furlong until succumbing close home and mares’ races at this level looks well within her grasp. She should improve for the run and her handler sees the Golden Jubilee as the long-term objective as she runs so well at Ascot.
Sonny Red had returned to winning form in a minor event at Nottingham last time and probably ran even better on this occasion. He was soon holding a handy position and came through to lead towards the centre over a furlong out and was another who only had to give best well inside the final furlong. He is another who should find a race at this level in his current form.
War Artist had it to do under his Grade 1 penalty and ran a blinder. He was held up in mid-division just behind the leaders but was finishing with some purpose in the closing stages and gave the impression that a return to 7f would be beneficial. He is probably just really finding his feet now and could be one to be with in the right race next time.
Prime Defender was soon chasing and he ran a respectable race without looking like winning. However, he has winning form at this level and his handler will nodoubt place him to good effect in due course.
Evens And Odds ran well enough and came through to lead over two furlongs out but is probably just below this level and Abraham Lincoln travelled quite well in mid division but didn’t have much more to offer in the final exchanges.
Aeroplane travelled well towards the stands’ side but didn’t have much more to offer in the closing stages and appears to be a horse that keeps his best for the mornings. (TE)
