The afternoon ended as it had started with yet another success for John Gosden, with PROHIBIT making it four winners from the same number of runners. He had given the impression that he would make inroads in this grade when scoring in a Nottingham maiden on his final start, and his finishing burst should stand him in good stead as the season progresses.
The winner washeld up towards the stands’ side until making his progress in the final two furlongs and he ran on well to poke his head in front close home. He should improve for the run and the handicapper can hardly clobber him for this.
Kaldoun Kingdom improved as the season progressed as a two-year-old and gave the impression that further can be expected from him in his second season. He made good headway on the stands’ side over a furlong out, but the winner was just too good. He was having his first outingsince October and should soon go one better.
Fol Hollow was soon taking the runners along on the far side and looked likely to prevail until well inside the final furlong. He was another who progressed with experience in his first season and was giving 9lb to the winner, which makes his effort all the more commendable. He could well have prevailed if the ground had been faster and clearly did little wrong.
Fathsta has fitness on his side after a busy campaign on the all-weather but is holding his form well and ran another sound race as he chased the leader on the far side and kept on. He looks capable, at the very least, of winning a run-of-the-mill handicap on the turf.
Striking Spirit was another to figure on the far side until fading inside the final furlong, but he is another who will have better days.
Victorian Bounty led the stands’ side group and kept on well enough when headed, while Chartist cameto take the lead off that rival over a furlong out before fading close home and is another for whom another visit to the winner’s enclosure will not be too far away. (TE)
