The winner had finished runner-up to two decent types in Fr Dominic and Almajd in maidens here last autumn and put that experience to good use as he broke smartly from the stalls on the far rail and made all for an easy success.
He holds a 2,000 Guineas and Dante entry and was given quotes of 40-1 by William Hill and Paddy Power and 50-1 by VCBet for the mile Classics, but his odds would appear to reflect his chance. However, he looks the sort that could continue to impress and there are plenty more good races in him.
Otaared had run well when sixth in the Convivial Maiden Stakes at York and put in a sound effort on his return here. He was soon chasing the leader and, although no match for him in the closing stages, kept on well enough, and will have no trouble losing his maiden tag.
Slugger O’Toole gave trouble loading once again, but he clearly has ability and also ran a reasonable race. He kept on without have the pace to take a hand in the finish, but this was probably quite a decent maiden.
El Duende had his third run and now qualifies for handicaps, and he should do better in that sphere, while Brother Barry caught the eye as he looked short of room when looking to make his challenge towards the far rail over two furlongs out and he can leave this effort behind in due course. (TE)
