The winner had been nicely on his toes in the paddock beforehand and, although drawn wide, was soon holding a handy position travelling well. The way he quickened to lead over a furlong out was the most revealing feature of his performance as when Jamie Spencer asked him to go the race was over in a matter of strides. He was allowed to hang right towards the rail when clear, and his handler will give him another race at Ascot or Windsor before heading for the Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot. He is clearly above average and has a bright future ahead of him.
Servoca was oneof three representatives from the Barry Hills team and he came out best on this occasion and, after being close up throughout, kept on. He should improve for the experience and can soon win his maiden.
Ouqba looked a nice sort beforehand and he ran a race brimful of promise as he stayed on strongly as he missed the break and didn’t have a clear run inside the final furlong. He should come on considerably for the experience and he looks the better long-term prospect than the runner-up.
Senatorial, the third representative from the Hills team, ran a nice first race and was in mid-division before staying on well without being subjected to a hard race. He is another who should find his way into the winner’s enclosure in due course.
Rayvin Mad ran a sound first race and was soon in the firing line, and he had every chance entering the final two furlongs but just kept on at the same pace in the closing stages. He appears to possess plenty of early pace and an easy 5f could be the key.
Asaint Needs Brass probably ran up to the form of his debut success at Kempton and kept on at the one pace in the final furlong after being close up, while Bad Beat made the running until headed by Art Connoisseur and both could be better served by racing on the all-weather. (TE)
