Blue Spinnaker, confidently ridden, got a run up the inside early in the straight and was poised to lead when Karmest surged past him and went across him, closely followed by the winner. Mulrennan, then boxed-in, had to pull round both horses and, although Blue Spinnaker responded well to pressure, he was unable to peg back the winner. He is likely to turn out again at Thirsk tomorrow.
Karmest, blinkered for the first time, eventually faded sharply. The remainder were well held.
